Description
◊ Active ingredient is ondansetron hydrochloride as the dihydrate,racemic form of ondansetron and a selective blocking agent of serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type

◊ 5% remove from the urine as parent compound
◊ Mean bioavailability-48% to 75%
◊ Absorption is greater in women than men |
Indication
◊ Nausea and vomitting induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy
Dosage and administrarion
Adults
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy
− highly emetogenic regimens(16mg rectally-2 hrs prior to chemotherapy.After first 24hrs f/b 16mg once daily up to further 5 days.Efficacy may be enhanced by addition of dexamethasone 20mg i.vprior to chemotherapy.
− less emetogenic regimens(16mg rectally 1-2 hrs b/f.After first 24 hrs f/b 16 mg rectally once daily up to further 5 days.
− Paediatrics-no experience
Contraindications
− Hypersensitivity to drugs
Warning and precautions
◊ It is not a drug that stimulate gastric or intestinal peristalsis
◊ Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
◊ Use of ondansetron in pts following abdominal surgery may lead gastric distension
Side effects
◊ Headache,a sensation of flushing or warmth in the head and epigastrium,hypersensitivity reactions,blurred visions

1.peel the wrapping apart to remove suppository
2.gently push the suppository into the rectum passage ,pointed end frist
