COMPOSITION
BECLATE-N Cream 15 g
• Beclomethasone Dipropionate IP 0.025% w/w
with Neomycin Sulphate IP 0.5% w/w (3,500 units/g)
• Preservative: Chloro¬cresol IP 0.1% w/w
In a cream base with Propylene Glycol q.s.
PHARMACOLOGY
» Beclomethasone dipropionate is a cortico¬steroid with potent topical action.
» It has marked vasoconstrictor and anti-inflammatory activity.

» It has both anti-bacterial and anti¬fungal activity.
» Neomycin sulphate is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic effective against a majority of bacterial skin infections.
INDICATIONS
» It is indicated for the local treatment of eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis and discoid lupus erythematosus,anogenital pruritus,impetigo (bacterial skin infection characterized by blisters that may itch) ,folliculitis
» BECLATE-N is also indicated for topical corticosteroid responsive inflammatory lesions where secondary bacterial infection is present, suspected, or likely to occur.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
◊ The effective action of corticosteroids is not more than 6 to 8 hours when applied locally.
◊ There is usually a need for three applications per day in acute cases.
◊ In resolving chronic dermatoses, a single application is adequate.
◊ Because the BECLATE range contains a potent cortico¬steroid, these creams should be applied as thinly as possible.
◊ When improvement is seen, the intervals between applications may be extended and eventually stopped.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
◊ Hypersensitivity to the preparations.
◊ These preparations are contraindicated in the presence of tuberculosis of the skin, chicken pox vaccines, herpes virus infections, and also for the treatment of varicose ulcers.
WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS
◊ Long-term continuous therapy should be avoided, especially in infants and children.
◊ Bacterial infection is encouraged by the warm and moist conditions induced by occlusive dressings .
◊ Therefore, the skin should be cleaned before a fresh dressing is applied.
Pregnancy
◊ There is inadequate evidence of safety in
pregnancy.
UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
• Local side effects may include skin atrophy, striae, and telangiectasia.(abnormal dilation of red, blue, or purple superficial capillaries, arterioles )
• Percutaneous absorption following prolonged application over a large surface area can cause Cushingoid changes.
• Should such systemic effects arise, topical treatment should be discontinued.
