COMPOSITION
Each film-coated tablet contains
Secnidazole………….1000mg
Description
• An oral synthetic antiprotozoal and antibacterial agents belonging to 5-
nitromidazole group.
• Effective in intestinal amoebiasis ,giardiasis,trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis,
as a single once only dose
Indication
• Intestinal amoebiasis
• Hepatic amoebiasis
• Trichomoniasis
• Giardiasis
• Bacterial vaginosis |
Dosage and administration
• Should be taken before meal
• Intestinal amoebiasis
• Adults-2g in one single dose
• Children-30mg/kg/day
• Asymptomatic amoebiasis
• Adults-1.2g/day
• Children-30mg/kg/day
• Hepatic amoebiasis
• Adults-1.5g/day in single dose or divided doses for 5 days
• Children-30mg/kg/day in single or divided dose for 5 days
• Giardiais
• Adults-single dose of 2 g
• Children-30mg/kg in one single dose
• Trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis
• Single dose of 2 g and pts partner should be treated with same dose
Contraindications
• Hypersinsitivities to derivatives of imidazole
Warning and precautions
• Pregnancy
• Should be avoid during first trimester
• Nursing mother
• It is secreted in breast milk so it should be avoided by nursing
Side effects
• Nausea,headache,anorexia,diarrhoea,epigastric distress matellaic taste (change in taste)glossitis,stomatitis,urticaria moderate leucopenia
• Rare-incoordination,ataxia ,paraesthesia,confusion and irritability
Storage
• Store in a cool dry place
